Descriptive Abstract

A descriptive abstract briefly describes the longer work; it makes no judgements. It is the responsibility of the readers to read the whole document to find the author results, conclusions and any recommendations.
  • Inform the researcher on content of the document
  • Will include the purpose, method, and scope of the document
  • Includes key words found in the text
  • Are short, usually less then 100 words
  • Does not provide results, conclusions, or any recommendations of the author
  • Informative Abstracts


    An informative abstract presents all the main arguments and results and allows readers to make an informed decision on whether they want to read the complete document.
  • Presents and explains the main arguments of the document
  • Will include the purpose, method, and scope of the document
  • Include key words found in the text
  • Are short, normally about 10% or less of the entire work
  • Will include the results, conclusions and any recommendations of the author
